After attaining the rank of captain in a mid-sized southern California police department, Gary retired with more than 30 years of municipal law enforcement experience.  In addition to working various line-level and supervisory patrol and investigative assignments, as a mid-manager and then senior manager, he was responsible for the administrative services division, (recruiting, background investigations, policy compliance, professional standards/internal affairs investigations, police records, and various human resources-related functions), as well as a 48-bed jail and the City’s animal care facility and animal control services.  Until his retirement in 2013 Gary was responsible for the patrol/operations division and dispatch/communications center, and also served as the department's public information officer.  Throughout his career Gary enjoyed a number of collateral assignments, including Police Explorer advisor and hostage/crisis negotiator.

As a private investigator, Gary has conducted numerous public- and private-sector workplace investigations throughout the State of California.   

​

Gary has a Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science from National University.  He is a graduate of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) Command College class 41, and the West Point Leadership Program at the Los Angeles Police Department.

Gary was one of the founding members of his department's Police Activities League, and for more than 20 years has volunteered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego.
